“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad,” – Alice in Wonderland

Let’s get ready to rumble! We’ve entered the month of March, which means it’s time for one of the most exciting sporting events of the year: March Madness.

What is March Madness?

March Madness is the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament that occurs every March. It begins with 68 teams from different schools that compete in a single elimination, bracket-style tournament to determine the champion. A popular pastime for fans of the sport is trying to accurately predict the results of the bracket.

The Bracket Challenge

Coming up with the perfect bracket is nearly impossible. In fact, you may have more luck buying lottery tickets than you could predicting a flawless bracket. However, creating a bracket does make the tournament more personable in my opinion. You feel personally invested in the teams and outcomes.

Tips and Tricks to Improve your Bracket

Let’s take luck out of the equation to make sure you create a winning bracket! Here are a few pointers to improve your bracket. First thing’s first: research, research, and more research! It’s important to do your diligence and learn about the teams and players before you start creating your bracket.

Research

My first stop is always ESPN to decide what teams I want to add to my bracket. Their website has their own predictions, explains the idea of “bracketology,” and includes additional tips and insights. I usually will read the articles to see what teams are expected to go far. After collecting the articles that I read, I will import them into Markup so that I can take notes. I highlight anything important that I want to come back to, making it easier to find my place in the future when I start trying to carve out my bracket.

Organizing your Notes

It’s important to get organized before you come up with the “perfect” bracket. Being a visual learner, it helps me to lay everything out in front and take notes on the teams participating. I like using NoteLedge to organize my research, write down the schedule for the games, and add video highlights in one easy place.

One Shining Moment

Friends, we’ve reached the most important step, and that is crafting your actual bracket. Once you’ve finished your research, you are all set to go. We’ve put together some tips on how to create a bracket in NoteLedge if you are not using other sites with your friends.

This year, if you share the bracket that you’ve created with NoteLedge, be sure to use #MarchMadness and @kdanmobile on Twitter for a chance to be retweeted from our official account!

It’s Game time!

Sit back, relax, and get ready for the action. The anticipation has already built as you create your brackets, and now it’s time for the games. While there are so many games, the best way to keep track of everything that is happening is check in on social media during the games.

Social media becomes one of my best friends during the tournament to keep track of news and updates that are going on throughout tournament. I tend to turn to Twitter to see what others think as well. I know I can find others’ opinions and see how they are crafting their brackets as well. It helps me to see what others think as well as I’m trying to create the “perfect” bracket.

One of my favorite applications to use for sports news is The Score. You can turn notifications on your favorite teams, scores, and news. It is very important to stay up to date on the events occurring during the tournament in case you want to edit your bracket before the next round.

After I’ve set up my bracket, it’s time to cross my fingers for the best of luck!

During the tournament, I continue to use social media and the web to stay up to date with the important news of the tournament. I love hearing what stories come out of games, and watching all of the impressive plays.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who has the chance to attend a March Madness game in person, don’t forget to take pictures for your memories. Check out some sports photography tips and take amazing pictures with your smartphone!

After the Game

I love remembering the exciting events that happen during March Madness. One of my favorite things to do is create my own montage of highlight videos so that I can look back on the Tournament.

If you’re really artsy, don’t forget that you can easily edit your videos to speed up or slow down the videos, and adding motion stickers to make the video more fun and entertaining! Don’t forget to share the videos you create with us by tagging us @kdanmobile.

Let’s Have Some Fun

Now that I’ve laid out all my tips for you – the only thing to do is enjoy some classic basketball! This year’s tournament boasts some of the best players in the country and the games are sure to be entertaining. Who do you have winning it all?
